Motorcycle-Friendly Cafes & Hangouts
This lovely little cafe was recently visited on a ride-out by the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride! Although it is very accommodating to bikers, it most often visited by people who are waiting to board ferries to neighbouring lands, Herm & Sark. Conveniently located right by the harbour of St. Peters Port Ferry Terminal, the cafe opens early at 6:30 and it is known and loved by many for its ‘Big Breakfast’!
Situated in the quaint little parish village of St Sampson, The Pony Inn is a very popular pub with bikers. Regularly visited by the Triumph Owners Motorcycle Club who often hold meetings here! This inn specialises in lots of different dishes, from pastas to pizzas, and a chargrill collection too! However, according to reviews, The Pony Inn is most famous for their burgers!
If you take a ride out on the west coast to Cobo Beach you will find yourself stumbling across The Rockmount pub. Nicknamed The Rocky for obvious reasons, this place is famous for its exceptional views, especially at sunset! The Other Islands!
The Island of Guernsey is mothered by the Bailiwick of Guernsey, which is actually a collection of islands… They’re all pretty different in their own way!
Known to be the third largest Channel Island, Alderney is also a popular place for bikers to take their day trips to! You can also access Alderney by ferry from Poole, and if you choose to go solo and leave your wheels at home, Southampton provides flights too! Alderney doesn’t get the same level as tourism as Guernsey or Jersey, so if you are visiting, you’re likely to see it in its true form!
Taking a trip to Sark is like taking a trip back in time. The only vehicles you will see here are bicycles along with horse and carriages! Oh, you might also see the odd tractor for farming all the local produce – but that’s about it!
Somewhat like Sark, Herm is the mini version. Filled with tranquillity, this tropical holiday island likewise has a restriction of vehicle access. Take a visit to this beautiful place you can see evidence of its Neolithic roots that were recently uncovered.
Unfortunately privately owned and not open to the public. There are apparently only 2 residents on the island. It is worth a sail past, and if you happen to be going that way, on the east coast you might be able to catch a glimpse of the Puffins jumping in the water!
The little island of Lihou isn’t really home to humans, but it has plenty of wildlife! If you visit Lihou you will notice that there is a little house on the island. This house is available to book for stopping over! It is quite basic, but it offers some beautiful views of the sea, and it often hosts school trips!
Also known as the Puffin Island… need I say more?!
This one isn’t for visitors… Well, it is, but you have to make prior arrangements with the Barclay Brothers, who own the island and currently reside there!
- The island itself has a history dating back to 6000 BC
- Before then, it was actually attached to France!
- The residents of Guernsey have their own language – this is known as guernésiais and you can hear examples of it here!
- One of the most famous houses on the island is Hauteville House. This was once home to the famous author, Victor Hugo. You might recognize him from one of his most famous works, Les Miserables. The house is now a museum welcoming visitors from all over to come and view his collections and work!
- Do you remember when England had a £1 note? Guernsey still has one!
