Suzuki History
In 1952 Suzuki built their first motorised bicycle known as the ‘Power Free’. It was a 36cc two-stroke engine. It was really popular as it was designed to be easy to maintain and inexpensive. In the early 60s, Suzuki won its first World Championship title and first TT victory. Making their name known throughout the industry.
Suzuki started the 70s with Roger De Coster. When he became World Motocross Champion on his Suzuki RN71. The wins continued into the late 70s. Barry Sheene winning his and Suzuki’s first 500cc world title on the RG500.
Katana
The 80s bought one of Suzuki’s biggest hits, the GSX1100S Katana. The bike became famous for its aggressive styling and amazing performance. Sales went very well with this model. Mid 80s Suzuki introduced a bike that would change the face of motorcycling, the GSX-R750. This bike gives 100hp and weighs 176kg. This machine created a whole new category of performance bikes. The GSX-R750 made for a 1-2 finish in the World Endurance Championship debut race. People loved the feel of the bike. Tt bought exciting motorcycling to life and became an iconic bike for Suzuki.
Over the next year
Suzuki reinvented the GSZ-R750. Equipping it with twin spar frame instead of the double cradle. The basic wheelbase dimensions were shortened generating smoother drivability with a dry weight of 179kg. The 90s also brought the famous GSX1300R Hayabusa. This was the finest 1298cc liquid cooled 4 cylinder machine around. Hayabusa is known for incredible balanced engine and aerodynamic design.
2000s had some exciting times to offer Suzuki.
Starting with the launch of the ultimate sports bike – GSX-R1000. Once again Suzuki makes history with for performance, handling and styling. The bike wins a number of Superbike title such as the World Superbike Championship in 2005. The GSX-R total production reaches 1 million in 2012. The title has now become associated with high performance sports bikes. In 2014 Suzuki introduced a new bike, the V Strom 1000 ABS. The first of their bikes with traction control. They also announced their return to MotoGP, the FIM Road Racing Grand Prix series from 2015.
