Tips for Riding Your Motorbike in the Sun
The hot and sunny weather is the perfect time to get out for a cruise on your motorbike. However, there are a few important things to remember to maximise the enjoyment and experience of riding on hot days.
1) Check your tyre pressure & fluids
When the roads are hot, your tyres get hotter which causes their pressure to rise. You can avoid over-inflation and risk of blowouts by checking your tyre pressure before you set off and when you make stops. It’s also important you check your bikes oil, brake, and clutch fluid levels before you set off.
2) Wear the right gear
When temperatures soar, it’s important to think about what to wear. The right clothing and accessories will stop you from overheating and will leave you feeling much more comfortable on your ride. It’s time to put the cold weather biker gear away, and replace it with mesh jackets, moisture-wicking base layers, shorter-cuffed gloves, and riding jeans. These will keep you cool without compromising on safety.
3) Don’t leave your motorbike in the sun
Prolonged exposure to the sun's UV rays can cause damage to your motorbike, so it’s important you avoid this where possible. The sun can cause your bikes paint to fade and can also damage its leathers, plastics, and rubbers, including its tyres! Make sure you park in the shade and use a good quality cover when you’re parked at home.
REMEMBER: When it's time to sell your bike, the condition of your bike's bodywork will be assessed and can affect your motorbike valuation.4) Take breaks and stay hydrated!
As fun as the hot weather is to ride in, it’s important that you stay safe. Carry enough water with you and plan in breaks along your route so you can stay hydrated. Don’t forget the suncream either to protect exposed parts of your skin.
