When is the best time to sell a motorbike?

If you’ve not sold a bike before, then you’re certainly not the first person to be wondering this. Then again, this question might not even have passed your mind. Nevertheless, all the experience we have built up over the years, we have found that the best time to sell a bike is around about November time; if you’re selling to a trader, that is.

Picture this: The season is coming to an end, a lot of people have put their wheels away for the winter, and the showrooms are nice and quiet. What a perfect time to have a one-on-one consultation with the salesman, who can view your bike. They will give you a true valuation, taking all specifications and alterations into account, without the hassle of customers flooding the showroom floor.

So, if November is the best time to sell; then, when is the best time to buy?! Good Question! Buying bikes can be a pressurised experience for someone searching for their next wheels. Especially in the prime of the season! With this being said, we have also found that buying bikes in March, specifically in England, can be a good time to bag a bargain. The Easter Holidays are coming up and so are the offers. British weather isn’t usually on our side, but if you’re buying a bike at this time of year, you’ll find that boggy Britain is probably your best friend. The showrooms will be nice and quiet, and once again, you’ll get yourself a salesman with all the attention he/she has to offer.

How to Prepare your Bike for Sale

We have done lots of blog posts on this topic, we did one specifically for preparing your bike for Winter,  we shared some of our tips on how to get your bike ready for sale.

The first point of call when preparing your bike for the market is to give it a little wash. You don’t have to go all out just yet! Giving your bike a quick rinse will give you a blank canvas, so to speak, alerting you of any marks or scratches, that you might not notice when you’re ready to go at it with a paint pen.

Once you’ve given it a quick once-over, you can now go over your bike, taking note of every single aspect that stands out to you; not forgetting all the nooks and crannies that are lurking in the crevices. Following this; you’re ready for a service! Well, you’re not, but your bike is. We have come up with a list of things to check when the time comes to service your bike...

-       Check Tyre Pressures

-       Change the Oil & Oil Filter

-       Check Brakes

-       Then Check Electronics Including Lights

-       Check Bodywork, Paint Surfaces and Mirrors
