Pubs

Ye Old Ship

This pub is a piece of Tatsfield history! The original building for The Old Ship was situated in the current car park. Legend tells us that the pub has a history dating back to the 1800s of course, the original owners aren’t around today but that doesn’t hide the history of the walls when you walk in! For a large time span of the 20th century, the pub was owned by Doss Monteith and his son Ian.

In 2016 the pub was bought by Red Oak Taverns who renovated the interior of the pub incorporated the old traditional design. Today the pub is loved by locals and visitors, this doesn’t come as a surprise considering the extensive range of refreshing drinks (there are 65+ gins)! They offer an eat-in or takeaway service with all their dishes – the company favourite seems to be the Barrel and Stone, Stone Baked Pizzas... Also, kids eat FREE!

Aperfield Inn

This inn on Biggin Hill is also a piece of history – this time, it is situated in the town of Westerham. Biggin Hill itself is the place that holds the history, but the grounds of the Aperfield Inn were once the grounds of The Manor of Aperfield. It is unclear when the manor was demolished but it is rumoured to have predated the Battle of Hastings! Today, although the interior is delightfully modern, it does have a twist of history to it also! Formerly known to locals as the ‘Fox and Hound’, you can see evidence of this in certain pieces of artwork displayed upon the walls. When visiting this Village Inns-owned pub, you will be treated to a selection of craft beers, plenty of gin, and many more delicious refreshing drinks. They also have a huge menu for you to feast your eyes on too!

The Bulls Head

Like many pubs, The Bulls Head was once a coaching inn back in the days of 1575.  This pub has recently been taken over by new landlords Stuart and Emma. This Orpington pub offers a wide range of from their Lunch, Dinner, and Dessert Menus. You can even sit and dine in front of the nice roaring fireplace accompanied by nice refreshments from their huge range at the bar. Rumour has it that this pub was another favourite of Dick Turpin – we recently featured another favourite of his over on our Newham page... you know, just in case you’re doing the Turpin Trip!

The Bromley Court Hotel (link)

If you want to stay in luxury, Bromley Court is the place for you! This hotel is filled with history. It was originally built as a courthouse in around 1800 for the first Baron Farnborough, Charles Long. The beautiful gardens on the grounds are all thanks to Charles’ wife Amelia. She was a renowned artist who designed them. For around 100 years the building remained the property of the Long family. Until 1904 when the property was adapted to be a hotel. In 1931 the family of the current Chairman Claire Acker bought the premises and have owned it ever since.

Over the years the Bromley Court Hotel has hosted various famous faces. Such as Cream, The Who, Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Pink Floyd, and even Jimi Hendrix! Today at the Bromley Court, you get the choice of 117 rooms to stay from. There is ample parking on the property. You can also choose to dine here too! Their famous chef Stephen Clark has been lucky enough to work with the Duke & Duchess of Cambridge, and he also provided some delicious culinary delights at Jazz Musician, Jools Holland’s wedding!
