Fun Facts:
- Once upon a time, Croydon was home to royalty! Back in the days when he met Catherine of Aragon, King Henry VIII lived in the borough. He also used to often pay visits to the Old House, which he apparently haunts to this day. Today, the Old House is now an all-girls school, so it’s tricky to visit... but you still can if you like! Friends of Old Palace, often host guided tours of the building, follow their website to find out more! – It should also be noted to research parking before visiting because you cannot park on site.
- Back in 1920, Croydon airport opened, and it was the first airport of its kind to schedule outgoing flights to international areas! This meant that it welcomed some very famous faces, such as Charlie Chaplin, John F. Kennedy, and Winston Churchill to name a few (he almost died here).
- Do we have any Pink Floyd fans in the house? If so, you’ll know this one all too well! When arranging the shoot for the album cover, there was a little intruder! I’ll give you a task... open a new tab on your browser, and you’ll see what I mean... Just search for it! On the album cover, you will notice that there is a pig in the sky above the Battersea Tower House. This pig didn’t half cause some problems to the flight plans at Heathrow Airport!
- Croydon has its very own museum where you can learn all about the history of the borough and how it has evolved over time.
